Replace Model Reference-ipt with iam

Hi all

I see you cannot do a "Replace Model Reference" in an idw by replacing an .ipt with an .iam.

Is there a way of getting around this?

I have a sub assembly of 2 parts.

I have detailed, in idw, the one part.

I have added on, in an iam, the second part.

I want to use the idw of the part, as the layout for the idw of my assembly.

Is this possible, or do I just have to start the idw of the assembly again from scratch?

Hi Mike,

I guess you have to make a new IDW. Otherwise you need to make a simplify part or something to get an ipt of an assembly. In eithercase you probably loose all annotations.

You could add your request to the Idea station but as long it will not take over the annotations you have to start over anyway.

Yeah, I'm doing some drawings from scratch right now because of this. Seems like you should be able to do that.

Hi Mike,

This has been requested repeatedly. However, Inventor drawing view object is component specific. A part and an assembly have different options. Replacing a part with an assembly or vice versa will need to destruction of the view. More than likely many things will need to be created from scratch. As a result, this workflow is not offered.

Okay, so that is not an option in Inventor.

As you said, too many differences between the part and the assembly would probably lead to

the destruction of a lot of the idw anyway.

In a real world, it is never totally possible to automate everything, as much as one would like to think it is!!
