Good afternoon.
Unfortunately, this is not a total solution.
Imagine you have more than two model states?
In the mirror parts you can only have one model state.
You should actually have two, just like the part that gave rise to it.
You have the default (primary) model state and you have the model state you need to create.
In the same way, you might want to have 3... 4... 5... model states.
Imagine you want to have the mirror part in the manufacturing drawing with oversize but then in the assembly drawing without the oversize.
Inventor doesn't allow this, which is a shame, it doesn't make sense.

Evening all

I have started looking at using the new model states in 2022. I have an existing part model that also has a mirrored part linked. I have now created 2 model states in the base component, How do I create the same 2 model states in the mirrored component to match the base component?

Donald

Hi Donald,

This is an interesting workflow. Unfortunately, I don't believe you would be able to create corresponding Model States in the mirrored part. You can create Model States but they won't be mapped back to the source component Model States.

The only workflow I am aware that Model States can help in Mirror is Mirror Feature/Solid. For example, you have a part with two Model States. You can save it as a different part and create Mirror Feature/Solid/remove original at the bottom of the feature tree. Now, you have a mirrored part with two Model States.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson

So what you are saying is the mirror feature from an assembly will not work with model states???

Is this something that is being looked at?

Donald

Hi Donald,

This is currently a technical limitation. Model States are supposed to be self-contained, meaning each Model State definition should be totally controlled within the file (part or assembly). The variation should be captured on the table.

There is no workflow to drive Model State outside of the file (across documents). As you can see, this limitation manifests it self in Derive, Adaptive, Frame Generator, Cable&Harness, Tube&Pipe, and any workflow relying on the same technology.

Many thanks!

Alternatively, you can try to create a mirror detail with the model state. By making a mirror of each element. What is not needed to extinguish. I agree this is a long process but as a solution ...

Would a check box in the mirrored option boxes be good to let users decide to mirror model states?

Also to note mirror does not translate sheet metal properties either. Always have to manually change my thickness of mirrored parts to get my parts list length and dimensions to show right.

This issue has been solved. Within the derived part created by the mirror command, select the original part in the design tree, RMB, select Representation in the dialog box, select Model State, select your preferred state to be used in the mirrored part.
