topic SVG lines to surface in Inventor Forum

Hi. I have an SVG file with a sketched window (see attachment). From this image I want to create a stamp. Via Inkscape I export the image as DXF. I get the image as a sketch placed on a surface. From this point, unfortunately, as a novice, I do not know how to extrude the lines. I have to make closed surfaces with a certain thickness out of the lines right? What is the best way to approach the problem?

Thanks and many greetings!

If by stamp you mean an emboss/engraving, then you will need to make sure that your sketch has closed loops. I often had to import from AutoCAD some vector logos for drawing templates in Inventor, and had to fix those in AutoCAD before importing. You should turn all lines into p-lines and join them, which helps making sure the image is "watertight". Let me know if you need more help on this.

This is quick and dirty, but i opened up your svg in Illustrator and expanded the lines so i got outlines instead of the single lines (not sure if Inkscape has a similar function, but i'd expect it to).

I then exported it to dwg and imported it into an Inventor.

On the first go it was too small for inventor to properly recognize the contours, so i scaled it up a bit.

It worked better, but still had a line that didn't get recognized.

I extruded that as a surface and used patch and stitch to close the profile.

If you clean up the svg before exporting to inventor you can probably circumvent that issue, i just left everything as it was but there are a lot of internal lines that can be removed.

Attached is my IV2021 file and the exported dwg.

Hope it helps.

Hello, thank you for your detailed answers! Then I'll find out how to do it in Inkscape. I already had such a similar idea, but didn't know how to do it actually. I guess I'd better ask in an Inkscape forum for that.
