Hey

I dont know what it is with Inventor but every now and then, it behaves weird...

See this animated image.

i need the dim on the right to on the left side as placed, not randomly re-position itself on the right side.

This dim is driven by an identical dim on the opposite left side (out of shot). The .25 in is a gap that is maintained.

I have tried adding the dim from right to left, left to right

I have even added a sketch line along the dim axis but that too randomly moves to the opposing side.

My need is quite simple really, i need the dimension to stay as its placed, not to move to the opposite side as shown...

any pointers as to how i can do this?

Thanks

I've had this issue recently though it's hard to reproduce - not sure what caused it either.

You encounter it normally where a sketch dimension is set to zero and it will switch directions occasionally when the value is increased. The way around in that case is to position it some nominal distance back and make your dimension x + 100mm say...

Hey

yes i never have any zero dims and typically work from a datum pint out. In this instance, i need to work from the corners to make sure the lengths calculate correctly to the space in between. I have since changed my approach but it would be great to not have to do that 🙂

I'm in Inventor 2010 and that happens to me as well. It only occurs from time to time, and I have never taken the time to try to find the cause. Too much going on and deadlines to waste time on what the DEVELOPERS should do. Anyway, it happens mostly when I change the sketch like you did. So I just resigned myself to live with it. So when any of the parts break from a down-stream dimensional change, I just cuss out Autodesk upper management and investors, fix it, and then move on. The amount of things that break determines how much I cuss.
