So, I will say, that in IVRO you do need signficantly more computer resources for working in a modle. While you do have more control and visibility (Like looking at the BOM in Structured and Parts Only set ups), the Shared View you create is viewable on something as small/simple as a cell phone (Mobile if you live across the pond). You can still measure and search. you can do section views, and if I recall, export reps (?) Our assembly shop uses shared views exclusively on the shop floor. The last 5 or so machines we built, we didn't issue drawings, just a shared view that we post the link to on a tab in a teams folder. Assembly can view it on their desktops, or if they are under a machine they can pull itup on their cell phone....very useful and uses almost no resources.

All,

I have a works manager that needs to be able to open inventor files iam, ipt, idw etc.

i know that inventor view will allow this but he needs to be able to measure from the models, also on assemblies it would be nice for him to be able to remove parts, section, move parts but without effecting the models saved in any way.

one way would be to let him have full inventor program and access but we want to restrict this.

is there a way that he can access and do what is required on the models etc. but we run no risk of breaking the original master file.

your help would be much appreciated.

Our managers use Navisworks Freedom (Free) viewer when it comes to larger assemblies. It is a broad enough viewer too that allows them to open other non-Autodesk formats and the DWF visualizations of tools we sometimes have generated from Vault.

I think Inv 2020 was the first version for the RO install. AD has been struggling for year with different viewers that would work with Inventor and give everyone the capabilities that they want. Seems like they just gave up and realized they could just install Inventor and strip out all the modeling portions of it.

Vault Pro 2020 has an option in set the viewer to either "Inventor View" or "Inventor RO".

I would never recommend Inventor View for viewing files. Inventor RO is much better, but it would take about 5 minutes showing them how to navigate around then they should be good to go.

Thanx for the info.

I relied on the DWF viewer a long time ago, until Autodesk abandoned it.

At that point I said, F**kYou Autodesk, and quit using ANY of their viewers and want to 3d pdf.

Much as I dislike the Adobe whoredom, it was stable and everybody was using it.

Only caveat is 3d pdf viewing controls SUCK.

With Inventor RO, can you view sketches and all those kinds of details just like if you were using full Inventor?

Reason I ask is b/c this could be one way I can be more involved in the forum.

If I could view OP's files, then I could offer better solutions than what I have been.

But my workstation is offline, so I wonder if I can get new Inventor installed on it without having to ping the internet?

I also do NOT want a newer version to interfere or mess up my current installation of 2010.

What can you tell me about all that?

Inventor RO is a stand-alone install. So if you already have 2010 installed you can install IRO without any issues. The only thing is if you have Inventor 2010 already open and then you open IRO, it might try to re-register with the operating system. But you can say NO when prompted.

Not completely sure if you will be able to install to your offline setup. You might have to be connected just to get it installed.

You can turn the visibility of sketches on/off just like in Inventor. There are just not any modeling tools. See the screen grab below.
