Trailing zeros

Hi. I need help to remove trailing zeros when adding dimensions in 3D-annotations.

Ok, i'm not sure if this works and it's not very logical either...

In order to change the dimension style for 3DA dimensions... you'll need to start a drawing (idw/dwg) in order to access the style...

It is not available in parts or assemblies!!? ( @johnsonshiue , @CGBenner )

So, you'll have to change it from the drawing, save it to your style library and then update it in your part (and templates if necessary)

I haven't tried this, since i don't want to mess up my styles and templates, but i hope it works for you.

Thanks. I was able to save a new style with the changes but I dont know how to get that style in to the part? It is not updated automaticly when saving and the button Update (under Manage styles and standards) dont find the new style. Thanks in advance for further help 😃

I don't think there is any way to get that style into a part or assembly file. Those styles are just not present in those file types. I think what needs to happen is that decimal settings like those found in the Drawing Styles Editor need to be added to the Annotation styles that do exist on the Part and Assembly Styles Editor. I would add this as an Idea and ask people to help you vote it up (I'll vote!)

Did you save your altered style to your style library? (manage tab > "styles and standards" section > Save)
I believe that once it is saved there you should be able to use the update button in the part in order to get the new style...
It might not be possible because the style doesn't seem to actually be present in the part, so if it doesn't work then you might need to put this up on the ideas board and locally override the precision for the time being...

Thanks for all help. So I have to accept that it is not duable at the moment. Changing the precision is not an option due to future changes (like 24 to 24,5 etc) will cause problems. /Johanna

I did some inquiry internally.... special thanks to @marius.gildehaus for the tutorial!

Check first to make sure that they Style Libraries in your Project File is set to Read-Write, not Read Only. If it is a Vault project you will need to check it out first before you can edit it. Once the project is set to Read-Write, open a drawing as mentioned above and edit the Style you want to use for 3DA. Save the changes to the Style Library.

Open the part or assembly, go to Styles Manager and select Update. You should see the changes that you just saved in the drawing. make sure the Update at the end is set to Yes. Then place your dimensions.... the style should reflect the changes you made in the drawing Styles Editor.

I did ask the question.... wouldn't it be easier for the user if the 3DA styles were just moved to the part/assembly Styles Editor? 😉

I'm surprised we don't have this captured in a Knowledge Base article yet. I'll see if I can at least get that process going.

@CGBenner - It would certainly be easier for users to be able to make these annotation style changes directly from the Model Styles Editor, but (unfortunately) it's a fair amount of development work to make that possible. We discuss this enhancement almost quarterly, and is a problem we're anxious to solve without question.

Please apply pressure here with the formal process of submitting and voting for this on the Inventor Idea Station.

Thanks again all of you! The only reason it didnt work the first time after Niels instructions was that I didnt have Read-Write in the project - once I changed that it worked well! /Johanna
