Typically, there is a long time issue called "Inventor Dirty Files" that could have caused this if you did not have any intention to edit those files that now appear to have been changed:
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/stop-telling-me-i-need-to-save-something-i-haven-t-changed/idi-p/5504812

However, if you have a very large assembly you should be prepared for that and keep in mind that, when working with Inventor and Vault, you can still accept changes to local files and just avoid checking them in.

To get past your issue I would allow edits to read-only files when asked by Inventor. You can attempt to check in the assembly by closing it, and at that moment Inventor will ask to save files and then check in any files you have checked out. You can then check in only the necessary files.

If your assembly has never been checked into Vault yet, therefore not having a Check Out on it, you can use another method where you can drag and drop (check in) an empty assembly into the location in Vault where you need your assembly to go, then check it out, and finally check in the original assembly as stated by the method above.

OK, I have a larger assembly file that needs to be checked into the Vault. I cannot as it says it needs to save 2 dependent files. I cannot find the offending files and almost all of them are "locked" as Vault released item.

IS there a way to find the offending file(s) that need saving. It is a royal pain to have to pan the browser looking for a tiny little asterisk. Looking for a filter or something that shows only the files the it says need saving.

Hi,

This is big problem. I have faced with small assembly and same problem. It was easy to find files but there should be some panel with "corrupted" files. Maybe, you should rise this problem on Idea forum.
