Hi all,

I have a 2021 MBP with M1 Pro, 16GB unified memory and I am currently running Parallels version 17. I'm having issues opening part and assembly files on inventor. I can start the application perfectly fine and even open and edit drawing packages with no issues. But, whenever I open a part file or try to create a new part everything loads right to the point right before you select a plane to sketch on then it crashes and closes. I have reinstalled inventor and also used the reset utility. I have messed with graphics settings on parallels software and nothing seems to fix the problem. Any help on this is appreciated!

Apart from the unhelpful obvious response of "it's not supported" - I'm happy you are trying it because I don't want to switch to a PC when I upgrade my existing Intel MB Pro, so thank you for doing the research for me!

If you can get into Inventor, can you try: Application Options > Hardware > Software Graphics - and then test it?

If that fails, open a drawing, then go back to the same point in Application Options, but hit the "Diagnostics" button. When the dialogue box appears, press OK (which copies a ton of diagnostic info' to the clipboard) - then come straight back here to the forum reply and Ctrl+V (Paste) whatever is on the clipboard into the reply.

Hi Peter, I have the exact same issue! MBP 2022, I've tried installing 2022 and 2023 Inventor on Windows 11 ARM all to no avail. I too can open dn edit drawings but whenever I open a part file Inventor crashes with no crash report! Unfortunately I also believe windows 10 cannot be installed on the new M1 chip so that's a dead end. I just hope Autodesk release an Inventor which can run on a ARM windows! Does anybody else have any ideas as to why this crash is happening? David

Hi,

I have managed to sort it and haven’t had any issue for a few months now 👍

I tried lots of different things but I’m almost certain it’s a graphics issue

firstly I’d try downloading the below:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

obviously restart after the download And I’m pretty sure that solves it! However I did also purchase an official windows license and turned off the sharing functionality between windows and max before re installing inventor! so these may have helped solve the issue! After installing you can switch the sharing function back on and everything seems to run fine on my machine now sharing wise 👍 you may also want to play with the inventor graphics setting once Installed to make it run faster 👍👍

Thank you so much for the quick response and the solution!

Installing the runtime libraries (even after the Inventor installation) saved me.

Everything is now working like a charm.

However, I just had a small assembly at hand.

Thank you!

@D.Brooks. That's awesome news! Thank you for sharing. So how do you find the performance? I know that's a difficult question to answer, but can you compare it to what you had prior to the M1/2 Mac?

I know from my Intel MacBook that running Inventor through the emulator (in my case VMWare, not Parallels) is noticeably slower than when the MacBook is booted directly to Windows - but it is quite usable.

I had the same issue. Part files would cause a crash but I could open a drawing file. I downloaded https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170 and it fixed the problem. I did not have to buy an official Microsoft license though. I'm running Windows 11 through insider program and using Inventor 2023 though Parallels on an M1 Mac.
