topic How do I identify the inputs to recreate a 3-point plane? in Inventor Forum

Hi,

When modifying my part I keep a backup copy for reference.

Edits in the new copy may break a 3-point plane so that it needs to be redefined. If the original 3 points are not used then sketches on the plane can move.

How do I identify the original 3 points in my backup that were used to create the 3 point plane?

Hi, you can try right clicking on the work plane and selecting "Show Inputs",as shown in the figure below. The three previously selected points are displayed on the model.

Thanks Chenj,

That seems quite intuitive and is what I did but I did not see any points highlighted.

Sorry - cannot share proprietary file but here is a demo with the same result.

My demo uses draft angles and filleted edges.

Right-click the plane > Show Inputs. If it was defined initially by 3 points on creation, it should highlight those then.

Please read above post. I did exactly that and the inputs do not show.

Sorry, my browser had not updated to see the replies.

I was able to open your sample and I see your plane is defined by the center points of those fillets. Because Inventor is for some reason incapable of showing those kind of inputs, I would recommend you use this workaround:

1- drag your End-Of-Part marker up to a point before the fillets are created, and pick the corners for plane creation;

2- drag the EOP marker down for the full model to generate itself again.

Hopefully this method can be applied to your production model as well.

Thanks. That is easy on a short demo but impossible on a large, real-world, example.

Maybe you can use another method, first create 3 work points, and then create a work plane based on 3 work points.

Hi! I would say this is more like a bug or incomplete implementation. The input geometry should be shown. I guess the only thing helpful is probably Relationship command. Right-click on the work plane in the browser -> Relationship. The parent features will be listed. However, it does not how the exact source geometry of interest.

Many thanks!
