Hey,

I want to use an .igs file but I an not able to see as an object that is possible to select so that I can work with that surface. I just have a few options when opening the file: Stitch, component and individual in part options. I need to make a mirror to this part and continue to build more surface on this already modelled part.

Under Part Options, select "Composite", then right-click on the solids/composites and pick "repair bodies" to open the repair environment tools, then pick "Unstitch" and select all or some objects/surfaces, then proceed to edit your surfaces imported... until you finish and select "Stitch" back again to bring it into one solid.

Hi! The mirror cannot be done during import. It has to be done after import. I am not sure I understand the difficulty. If possible, please share the example here. I would like to understand the issue better.

Many thanks!

Hi! You mean thickening the mirrored surface? Does Thicken work on the original surface? If not, the thicken will likely fail on the mirrored side. Try tightening up the stitch tolerance to 0.00001mm.

Please share the files here or send them to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I can help take a look to see what other options we may have.

Many thanks!

Hi Brenda,

Many thanks for sharing the file with me! Without disclosing the detail of the file, let me describe it in this way. The boat hull consists of 120+ individual surfaces. There are gaps between them. The gap size exceeds the tolerance allowed to create a meaningful stitched surface in Inventor unfortunately. Even if the quilt is created and mirrored, likely the Thicken will fail.

Inventor has very limited workflows to handle such geometry. I suggest you may look into the original CAD file and see if you can simplify the geometry in the native environment.

Thanks again!
