Hi! I think the warning is letting you know that Inventor may need to save the part file with multiple Model States. But, the part file is being edited in place in an assembly or elsewhere. To save the file, the edit-in-place may need to be finished.

Please share the files here so we can take a look at the workflow more closely.

BTW, the black dot means the component is fully-constrained.

Many thanks!

Searched around but found nothing related to this warning message.

Anyone else get this warning. Seems to save fine. not sure what other documents it's referring too. I only have the .iam and .dwg open. And saving both.

oh! That would make sense. Our India source performed a save as on another assembly from 2021. I'm not sure their design practices, but I have found all sorts of discrepancies in this assembly. Interferences and not symetrical modelling, just little things.

Thanks I'll check out the links.

We probably need to see a bit more of the screen to identify exactly what is happening - can you show the browser tree in the screenshot?

This error typically happens when you hit save, but you are editing a sub-assembly or part. The Save function attempts to save component(s) being edited - not the parent assembly. Ordinarily, this isn't a problem, but when one of the components being saved depends on another component outside the save-set - that's when you get the error.

Here are a couple of screenshots. Not sure if you can see the browser. I got the message again when saving the drawing file just now. But did not get a warning when I saved the model.

Only thing I see that is weird is there is an subassembly that the components have a little black icon next to them. I dont know what that icon is 😊

I always save after I close eidts, I never edit while in Edit mode. Who does that lol. I made sure all .prt, .iam and . dwg files are closed. As well as all other software, basically only Inventor open.

Is that what that is? is that new? I have never seen that before on any of my components and I check for degree of freedom always. That's good to know. I seatches all over the internet for what the black dot is.

Give me a second to try to send the file.

As described in the first link the warning is when you have an assembly copy in your assembly that was created in another file likely from a master sketch like a run from tube and pipe addin or frame generator addin. You don’t have the driver file so you can’t save changes back to it. You can search the file that is excluded and it will likely be read only if you were to enter the assembly and to try and make changes.
