Hi Chris,

Then I don't think the property was ever there. It was simply a PartsList only column. It did not come from the individual component document.

Many thanks!

Does anyone know how I can find where the a custom property field is linked from a parts list in my .idw drawing back to the part file behind it?

Heres the situation – I have inherited a load of drawings from a 3rd party supplier in Germany. I’m going through the drawings and editing parts lists on them. I’m using the “edit styles”, then adding/removing columns to suit what I need, but there are a couple of columns in my parts list that I can’t find the source data for in the part?

So for instance, I want to find the Dwg No. number for the “side plate”. According to the styles manager, this property is called “Zeichnungsnummer”.

So open the iProperties for that part, no where can I find a field or property called that name? Not in any of the standard fields, or the custom properties.

Does anyone know what might be going on? I need to update this drawing number and cant find where is being pulled from?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

Could it be that the Property translated when you brought the drawings into your English language Inventor? Can you share one of the part files here?

Thanks Chris,

My company doesnt let me share part files unfortunately, and I cant replicate the example as these are parts sent to me.

That "Zeichnungsnummer" translates to "Drawing number" in English, but I cant find any properties in the part with that name?

Thanks

If they used a Skeletal or Muscular modeling method, then maybe there's a MasterSketch that has all the critical or shared iProperties in it?

Or maybe they used a Spreadsheet to hold all the critical or shared iProperties?

Or maybe someone in the Inventor Customization forum can help you with an iLogic rule or VBA macro that searches all files in a directory for the iProperty name you type in a search box?

Could be as simple as the column in the parts list having been edited. By default the column heading is the same as the property name, but that can be edited. For example, in my company's Parts List Style for weldments, the "Part Number" column heading has been changed to say "MARK" instead of "PART NUMBER".

Are there any iProperties in the parts with the same value as what is shown in the parts list, but a different property name? If so, that's a likely candidate to be the property that is really being referenced by the parts list.

Hi Chris,

I can think of two possible explanations. 1) The column is simply a property residing in the PartsList, not in the Part. The values are not retrieved from a part. Instead it is manually entered (highlighted in blue).

2) The property used to exist in the parts but it was removed after the drawing was created.

Or, there is a corruption. The property becomes hidden but still accessible by PartsList.

If possible, please share the files with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I can use our internal debug tool to see if the property is hidden.

Many thanks!

Thanks Johnsonshiue.

The parts in the list in question are indeed blue, so have become static and are no longer updated by the parts field.

Does anyone know if there is a way to re-instate the link?
I have other fields that are blue that I would like to re-link back to part files?

Appreciate the ongoing support.

Thanks
