Hello guys I have spent a lot time doing this assembly, and I also had some parameters. So one of my parameters was false, I tried it and it ruined the assembly so I deleted the parameter. But the assembly still wants an update, but I already deleted the parameter I cant undo. I just want to ingore the update assembly tab, but I cant use any other parameter atm because of it. I am lost help pls. I also cant quit without saving because there is a lot of work sadly. Is there any way to make inventor forget this update or ignore it ?

Hi @talha_ozdemir

Unfortunately, there is no way to suppress the update lightning bolt. It is interesting that every component is out of date.

You can also use the diagnostics box to determine what's dirty

1. Bring up the About Inventor Dialog Box (its in the dropdown menu next to the "?"

2. hit Ctrl + D

3. It should pop up a dialog indicating what's dirty

Task Scheduler

1. Use task scheduler and update/rebuild your entire assembly, sub-assemblies and parts

2. Open the top assembly and see if you still have the lightning bolt

3. If you see the lightning bolt only on the top assy, simply rebuild and save

4. If you see the lightning bolt on all components, then we can investigate further.

Restore your deleted parameter back

1. Try recreating your deleted parameter and see if the problem goes away

If the problem is still not resolved, can you send us the dataset? You can try to reduce it first with just one or two dirty components. You can email it to me: sundarsATautodeskDOTcom

Hi! On top of what Shiva already mentioned, here are my additional comments. As Shiva mentioned, the need to update is determined by Inventor. There is no way to "suppress" update except when you make the sub components unavailable (unresolved).

The "Defer Update" in Tools -> App Options -> Assembly only works for constraining purpose. It temporarily suppresses constraint solve but it does not suppress the need to update. When "Defer Update" is on, the user can create multiple constraints without having to wait for constraints to solve. The option was made back in the old days when Inventor's capacity/performance was not ideal and the machines were under-powered. Nowadays, such problems no longer exist. "Defer Update" is merely as a convenience option allowing you to create multiple constraints quickly. After you are done creating the constraints, dragging a component or clicking the Update button or doing Rebuild all will update the assembly.

Based on my experience, this assembly probably contains many derive parts or Excel-linked parts. When the derive source or Excel spreadsheet is changed and it alters the design, Inventor will mark these dependent parts as need to be update.

Many thanks!

Hi Shiva. Thanks for the detailed suggestions and help. I tried but unfortunately nothing is working. I think I just have to rebuild the whole assembly. Happens sometimes.

Hi Talha,

I got your assembly and I took a quick look at it. On Inventor 2022.2.2 if I open the assembly I see all the components marked as dirty (with the lightning bolt).

I am able to open the assembly and update it. The update does fail with some extrusion failure and some relationship (constraint failures). Once I hit "Accept" to those failures, the update will continue and finish and the lightning bolt should go away. If you hit "cancel" on the error dialog, it will abort the update and go back to the out-of-date state.

Since I am able to open the assembly and update it fine, can you try the same? If thats not working, can you provide some steps on how to reproduce the problem?

Thanks

-shiva

Hi again Shiva,

I am really thankful for the effort. So I did the steps as you said. When I hit the lightning bolt it updates and the relationships and extrusions fail.

Here when I hit cancel the assembly goes to normal state out-of-date state so its fine, BUT the lightning bolt is still there.

Hi @talha_ozdemir

Yes. When you cancel, you are aborting the update and therefore the update is cancelled and the lightning bolt will not go away - it will go away only when you hit "Accept".

So, what you need to do is hit accept and then post-update, try to fix up the errors - see what the cause of the failure is for those extrusions and constraints. It will be an easy way to fix up the assembly rather than redo the whole thing.

Thanks

-shiva
