What's the difference between group, composite and Repaired Geometry and surface?
in a simple definition please. Not the definition in Inventor Help.
especially "composite" term.

All these commands are in the attached image.

Hi! These terms are indeed a bit confusing. I think the context of interest here is Copy Object, which is the only command capable of generating these outputs.

Group: This is about Construction Environment (CE). It is an object that you can dump multiple surface or solid bodies to within CE. You will need to enable CE first (Tools -> App Options -> Part -> Enable Construction Environment). This environment is non-parametric. It is like raw. The geometry is not named and tagged as the parametric environment. The objects in this environment will not be visible in an assembly.

Composite: This is a parametric node, kind of like Group but it is in parametric environment. A composite can contain surface bodies and solid bodies. The difference between Composite and Group is that one is named and tagged but the other one isn't.

Repaired Geometry: This is about the geometry in Repair Environment (RE). RE is similar to CE but the geometry is named and tagged. You can use feature commands on such geometry. Similar CE commands are available in RE.

Surface: This is about body geometry that does not have thickness. The surface can be created from a feature. Or, it is imported. If you have a bunch of connected surfaces, you can stitch them into a quilt (another surface).

Many thanks!

Thank you very much.
(A composite can contain surface bodies and solid bodies).
why is the composite sometimes contain surface (when we use copy object), and sometimes contain surfaces and solids (when importing a file for example).
please, another question:
there is inventor nastran, this program can make stress analysis for: mechanics and composites and plastics.
What is the mean of composites in this case.
See the attached picture

Hi! Inventor composite does allow mixed body types. It depends on what is selected. If you select mixed bodies in Copy Object, the composite node will contain surfaces and solids.

Regarding Composite in NASTRAN, I believe it is about Composite material (man-made material with multiple layers like carbon fiber). It is not the same as Inventor Composite we discussed earlier.

Many thanks!

To add to what Johnson has said about composites, I think the reason you see different results depends on the geometry you are importing.

Usually if a part comes in as a surface but you expected it to be solid, it is because there has been an error in translation, either in export or import. If a solid shape has a tiny gap in a face, it automatically becomes a surface.

Therefore if you are bringing in a file that has two bodies, but one has a bad translation, the body will be a surface and the good body will stay solid.
