The biggest thing for me is that the sheet metal features haven't been included in the updated UI.

In the Extrude command I can select just the bounding profile in this example. In the Face command, I cannot.

Another useful feature in the new UI is able to name the new solid during the feature creation. As someone who mostly creates large multi-body sheet metal parts, this is desired.

The command UI started to get the lipstick in 2018 with the measure tool, then 2019 with the hole command, 2020 to the Extrude, Revolve, Sweep and thread commands.

Now I'm on 2023 and the majority of functions are still using the old design.

When could we expect uniformity?

Hi Andrew,

We are making progress on the modernization of the UI. It's been an on-going effort and will continue to be as Inventor has just too many legacy dialogs and UI. Conversion of these legacy dialogs is indeed time consuming and not trivial. It's complicated not only because we have to incorporate new UI elements, but also have to make sure there is clear separation of ui logic and business logic and finally ensure that its of high quality. I admit, nothing is fast enough :). However, the good news is that as we develop new functionality and new UI, we try to make sure they are being incorporated with the new modernization standards.

If there is any particular command or UI that you think should be prioritized, please feel free to post on the idea forum or beta forum.

Thank you for your patience.

-shiva

@andrewdroth Actually the profile selection problem you mention has nothing to do with modernizing the dialog/panel UI. It was an entirely new type of profile recognition and selection put into part commands a few years ago, as you say, Face did not have this improvement added. We do actually have a story to add this to Face but when we tried a few years ago we ran into some marked performance problems and the attempt was withdrawn until we can do some more research.

The body naming was another recent add that was done in the panel code but not in legacy dialogs.

I would like to see Face modernized since it is the starting point for most sheet metal parts but it needs to be prioritized against the other projects we are doing, including some in sheet metal.

@Anonymous Can we formalize this request for modernization of the Face cmd for prioritization?
