Hello guys,

I switched today to 2022, and I was trying the new feature, but I would aspect a different behaviour than what happened.

When you suppress a part or an assembly shouldn't the constraints that are used with that part or assembly also be suppressed by default? The inventor should not compute constraints of things that are suppressed right?

I believe I understand now model states it's just like a view representation that you don't have to keep turning on associativity, and for the BOM in drawings you don't need to configure the BOM only to show componentes that are visible in that view rep.

It doesn't affect anything about constraints.

Hi Manuel,

We typically don't suppress the constraints even if the part is suppressed. Its the same behavior as Inventor 2021 or earlier where you suppress some parts for a Level of Detail and the constraints are still shown as unsuppressed in the browser. They would not compute if the parts they constraint are suppressed - there would be nothing to compute.

Model states are lot more than just view representations. They give the capability to represent a component in different stages of design or manufacturing not just BOM or visibility. Model states give you the capability to configure your parts any way you want while giving you the flexibility of level of details and iassemblies/iparts all put together.

The knowledge base has good documentation on Model states. Please feel free to try out new workflows with it and let us know what you think.

Thanks

Hi Manual,

Yes. Agreed. If you create a constraint in one model state and switch to a different model state, then it will be suppressed (assuming you are not editing in factory scope).

Are you saying that after creating a new constraint, the newly created constraint's state is suppressed? Are you using an iLogic script or any vba script to suppress it post creation? If you can share an example that would be great.

In the files attached I'm not being able to suppress and unsuppress in different model states, I'm on Inventor 2022.3 .

I know that I can do what I'm trying with positional representations.

If this is possible then model states are interesting I though they were supposed to do that but since I wasn't being able I though they were kind of useless because there was other ways to achieve the same result.

Try the extended and retracted constrains.

Thank you for the dataset. I can see the Extended & Retracted model states, and suppressing or un-suppressing the components works fine and I don't see any problems there. I am also able to individually control the constraint suppression on a per model state basis.

Could you provide a demo video or steps to reproduce the problem as I am not seeing it with this dataset.
