how to add text to reference dimension

When adding a symbol to a dimension (in this case the Dia symbol) it is not included in the parentheses when changing to a Reference dimension. Is there a way to get Inventor to include this symbol within the () without typing the dimension as text??

You'll need to set up a custom dimension style that has that as a prefix. This can be found in the Styles and Standards editor under \Dimension\Text tab. Then fill in the Prefix box as shown below. In your .dwg, you will need to use this dimension style for that particular type of dimension so it displays as such.

It still puts the Dia symbol outside of the () after changing to Reference dimension.

There is a option to get the pre-/suffix inside a Basic Dimension (TED)...

But for Reference Dimensions, you will need to add the parentheses to the pre-/suffix.

My suggestion only works on either "real diameters" or something able to be assigned a diametral dimension type while in the middle of picking the points. Upon further examination of your screenshot, if you are doing a diameter from virtual intersection to virtual intersection, you may not get it to work the way you want.
