Inventor to Solid Edge

Hi All

I am starting a new job today, using solid edge.

I have worked on Inventor for about 10 years and autocad for about 28 years.

Just having a look at a few tutorials in solid edge it doesn't appear all that different from inventor on the basic commands.

The solid edge dealer mentions Audit and Synchronous (whatever those are)

Those who have used solid edge before, how long do you think it will take me to transition and be fully productive?

I have been unable to load the 30 day demo because it only works on WIndows 10 Pro, which I don't have on either my laptop or desktop.

Those that have used Solid Edge previously, can you possibly provide me with a few pointers as to what the main

differences are.

I have already joined.

I did find some interesting previous posts on inventor vs solid edge.

There are some good tutorials around that I can look at, and I am going to get my hard drive partitioned with

windows 10 pro tomorrow so i can load the 30 day demo for my own personal use. I will start using the work copy at work on Monday.

Thanks to everyone on this autodesk inventor forum over the last 10 or so years for your fantastic support and quick answers, including autodesk.

I still have my own licensed Inventor Pro 2018 loaded, so might still come back to this forum on the odd occasion

Hi All

Here I am again 6 months later

Am only now starting to learn solid edge, have been doing other stuff.
I have a community copy from Siemens which I can use indefinitely
to practice on and learn.

Unlike Autodesk who only give a 30 day copy, Siemens also give
an indefinite, no expiry date, "community" copy which you are allowed to use,
as long as you don't use it for commercial purposes.

I will therefore be back to using the Inventor Forum again, as it
was such an awesome tool, to compare how it is done in Inventor.

Even though I might know how to do it in Inventor, I will be looking to see if it is the best way,

or if there is another better way, and also any other queries which I never

encountered before in Inventor.

Then separately I will investigate how it is done in solid edge in comparison.

For this I will confer with other solid edge drafters I am working with, and also

use the solid edge forum which I joined 5 months ago but have never used.

Looking at the solid edge forum, there are definitely a lot less posts overall than the

Inventor Forum. This tells me that there are a lot less Solid Edge Users worldwide than

Inventor users. I know that is a fact, here in South Africa, as I have come across many inventor

users but no solid edge users, so far,except where I work.

Some Solidworks user had converted to Solid Edge.
