topic Dimensioning style in Inventor Forum

This is wierd. I wantto update our (new) drawings to reflect BS 8888, and specifically the method of displaying the decimal point as a comma rather than a full stop (period mark, if you will)

If I open a blank drawing through inventor File>New>Drawing etc the Dimensioning style is Default ISO and the decimal point is called up as a 'period' or full stop.

Using File manager and opening the exact same file, when it opens in Inventor the dimension styling is again Default ISO but this time with the correct comma in as the decimal separator.
It's inconveneient to have to change it in every drawing I do and as I am championing it through our business I'd like to get it correct for everyone.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.

File>New>Drawing uses some internally stored/hardcoded templates and not the ones you are opening using file manager..

So they just aren't the same files and the style has been modified in yours.

Thanks for that but it still leaves me confused. Using inventor, it points to this file:

Which is, as far as I can tell, this one:

Is there something in Inventor that over-rides depending on the route to open chosen?
Forgive me if I sound like an idiot (my wife is used to it) but our CAD manager left pre-pandemic and no-one else has a clue on how to fix it.
Thanks

I assumed by "File>New>Drawing" you meant going this way..

Never a good idea to open files via file manager as that can result in the incorrect project file being used which might have happened in your case.

OK, so if that were the case (it going into the 'wrong' project file) could that be something that over-writes the settings?

Again, please forgive me for appearing dumb.

Styles are saved in 3 places: Style Library, Template and File.

All 3 could be different if not managed properly.

User could change style in file. If the change is approved, it should be save to Template and Style Library.

And it should be save to a company standard, not the default from IV.

As @Frederick_Law pointed out there are three possible locations for a style. From what you've described, I believe that you have changed the style in your template file, but have not saved it to the styles library. The styles library wins whenever there is a conflict between template and library when creating a new file, so I believe all that you need to do is:

With all files closed, make your active project access to the Styles Library "Read/Write"

Open your template file, click on Manage > Save Styles to Style Library; styles which differ from the library are listed

Choose which styles you want to save to the library as global styles.

Close the drawing, go back to the Project Editor and change access back to Read-Only

Note that the tool-tip shown above is not quite correct-- it implies that a change to the library will change existing documents that use that style, but that is not true. You must open existing documents and use the Update Styles tool to make that change to those files. But it definitely applies to all future documents using that style.
