Include Work Features into Flat pattern not working

Hi Experts, seems like the "Include work features" into a Flat pattern view, doesn't return any result. Any idea?

Maybe it's my fault.

Hi!

The operations you do in the flat pattern are only visible in the flat pattern environment, not in the 3D folded model.

Could you Tell us what you need to achieve and we would give you some options.

Highlighted axis is X axis in the IPT. No way to get it into my drawing view of the flat pattern by RMB on "Flat pattern" --> "Include work features..." --> "This model only" --> "Origin Work Axes"

the one you see has been made "somehow" from bend lines...not reliable in case of model change

I see what you are saying. I bet this is due to the fact that when you are in the flat pattern, the "origin planes/axis" do not show in the browser, so therefore will not appear when you perform that action on the flat pattern. It does work for the folded model. I believe this is because the features are actually there to recover.

The axis systems are independent and different between the folded part and the flat pattern...

Sure it is, but every IPT has its own Origin. The flat pattern is derived so it has its own as well.
The feature Im referring to is recalling Origin axis from current IPT; there's no reason for not being there...

Hi Matteo,

This is a limitation. The Folded body origin coordinate system may not apply to Flat Pattern environment. It is because the Flat Pattern body is like a derived body from the Folded body. It is placed somewhere in the space. Only the geometry associated with the Flat Pattern body itself matters.

A workaround you may try. You could create a sketch in the FP body and then create Cosmetic Center Line based on the sketch. Such center line will appear in the drawing automatically.

Hi Johnson, thank you for your workaround; it's 100% clear to me and it was expected.
what is weird is that a derived body, as you mentioned, "is placed somewhere in the space". This is not what happens into an ordinary derived body; so i assume that the Origin should be consistent with the folded model...
Your workaround gets me to the result but it keeps inconsistent in case the folded model changes in size and in relative positioning to the global UCS. I think an improvement is required here

Hi Matteo,

I need to be more precise regarding the relationship between the FP body and the Folded body. A FP body is a dependent body of a Folded body. Without a Folded body, there is no FP body, not the other way around. However, such relationship isn't strictly like Inventor Derive. Derive is like inheriting the body geometry from the source at the the same location relative to the document coordinate system. It is a copy of the body with a link back to the source.

FP body is similar. However, its location may depend on where the planar reference starts. It is not entirely true that the Folded body coordinate system can be transposed to the FP body.
