Hi All,

Very minor problem(?) here

I currently work with a big design data folder which contains product assemblies and a whole lot of parts. Sometimes I struggle to locate parts within the folder, but I can see them in an assembly I'm working with - it would be really useful for me to be able to click on the part within the model tree in order to locate it within my PC's file browser, can this be done?

I know I could just search my files with the relevant part name, I'm just wondering if there's an easier/quicker way to do so.

Thanks in advance

Hello, I use Inventor 2021 and when I right click on a part within the model tree, I have the option "Open File Location". If I click on this it will open the local folder on my pc and also select the part.

Hi Lars,

Thanks for your response. I'm also using 2021, but I can't see that option - unless I'm being a dope, which wouldn't be the first time. Here's what I see:

[cid:5a4ce68b-2e84-41a5-86d6-09a4d642f8c9]

That's strange, which release are you on? I use release 2021.3.1

This is my full list if I right click on a part.

I'm using build 353.

Do you get the option "Open File Location" if you right click on a part in the assemby (graphics window) instead of the model tree?

I'm on 2023, build 158 and I have the "Open File Location" option on the main assembly, sub-assembly and part files.

I have to think it's something in your application settings or menu options. I'm still looking for a possible setting though.

This functionality was added in 2021.2. You will need to install the update in order to see the option in the right click menu.
