I'd just roll the body and weld the flanges in place. You will not be able to do all this in one sheet metal folding/rolling operation. You can use multi-body sheet metal and do the roll and facing of the flanges in 1 sheet metal part, and then use the make components command to make the weldment. Or just make the pieces independently constrain together in an assy/weldment.

Due to the rolling you will not be able to utilize the flange command since it is not a linear/planar face.

I am trying to make a flange on the following sheet metal item.

My end goal is to make something like this

i started with a contour roll for the shell portion (.1 thk), but inventor is not help me create a 90deg flange at the end of the curved face.

Can anyone help or tell me what i am doing wrong?

Thanks

Hi,
Welding flanges to the rolled body will (most likely) distort the item. I would use Lofted Flange instead. The item is still made out of two pieces, but from welding point of view it will deliver a lot more user friendly item.
Here are some files in IV2020 format.
Cheers,

I was looking at the lofting way initially as well except with full rads and flanges in the loft until I looked at the top a little more. It is almost as if there is an additional taper on the top then a small straight. There would be essentially 3 welded edges, and so I figured depending on how critical all this, maybe the flanges would be easier in the long run....Just a thought.

It all boils down to what technologically is achievable. For a short segments - welding the flanges on is feasible. But for the long ones - I would have a second thought before commuting myself to such a weld.
Cheers,
