topic Unable to delete or rename model states in Inventor Forum

Have been using Model States extensively over the past few months without issue. Until a few minutes ago that is. I've just encountered a problem where newly created states can not be activated, renamed or even deleted once created. They are also appearing in the excel interface but neither approach (browser tree or Excel) has been able to fix the problem. I have created a new assembly and am able to create the new Model States as normal but whenever I try to add new states to parts and assemblies with the existing Model States in place, it won't even let me activate the new states once created. A problem that didn't exists until moments ago. The only thing I've done since the problem started was that performed a routine Vault backup this afternoon.

UPDATE: Fixed it. There were duplicate member name entries in the excel sheet.

Hi! The behavior does not look right to me. Please try this. Close all files and open the file with Model States. Then perform the delete workflow. Does it work? If not, there could be some sort of corruption. Please zip up the files and send it to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

The issue stemmed from the way I was creating the new Model States. I was adding states via the Excel interface and wasn't careful when copying and pasting data from existing rows. It wasn't until I exited out of Excel and attempted to changed Model States (in the browser tree) that I became aware of the problem (unable to change, delete or rename existing states). Once I went back in and corrected the duplicated member names in Excel, it seemed to have sorted itself out again. An improvement to the interface might be a warning to the user that "duplicate member names are not permitted" (or something to that effect). That was a couple of weeks ago and it hasn't been a problem since.
