Hello,

I am doing a 3D solid in Inventor 2023. I have two surfaces on the outer side of a solid body. The two surface bodies have a 1 mm of offset but same shape. How can I use those geometries to build a solid with the space between them (1 mm thickness solid, keeping the same shape?)

I attach dummy file, in .ipt.

I thank you in advance,

Best regards,

Hi!

You can use split tool:

Result:

... but why do all these work? Why not just an extrude... or use Shell?

You could also patch and stich the surface.

It's a little hard to tell what you are actually trying to achieve.

I want to have the core solid (which I already have), and another solid, with the same shape, around it, with 1 mm thickness. right now, I can extrude it, but I can't create a new solid with that extrusion.

I haven’t looked at your file yet, but Thickened Offset is the first thing that comes to mind.

Perhaps in conjunction with Derived component.

Can you not just place both profiles in one sketch and extrude each as its own solid body, or make 2 separate sketches and do the same thing?

Attached (2023) is a version where I rolled up your part, and just made a simple example. Outside of box, and 1mm offset. Extruded each and the inner is now its own solid. If you were needed it to "core" out, then instead of extruding the outer 1mm wall, extrude the whole shape, and use the second extrude in the combine operation as a cut tool.

Hi Hugo,

Here is another approach. Instead of creating the Extrude Surface, use Offset command -> select all the faces of the Solid1 -> distance = 0. Then use Sculpt command -> select the two offset surfaces -> New Solid Body -> flip the direction for both surfaces. It should create the desirable solid body.

Many thanks!
