IV 2023.2.1 - Suppressed Components participation in BOM

Hello, 🙂
I have an assembly in which I've suppressed components, based on the messages I've received about suppressed components not participating in the BOM I was surprised to see the suppressed components on the BOM but with a zero quantity, it appears to me due to the suppressed parts appearing, they are participating. I felt I ought to explore adding a Parts List filter as the Parts aren't showing in the view and I hoped the suppressed parts would disappear, again they remained with a zero quantity. Further poking around from Vault side, when I created an Item from the assembly, the suppressed Items are showing with a quantity in the Item's BOM, which is different result again.

I have an assembly which is Phantom BOM Structure and I was intending the suppressed parts to not show on the BOM or Parts List but alas this is not the case and I've gone back to old methods of making parts disappear from the BOM/Parts List as Model States and Suppressed parts are participating in both the BOM and Vault.

What have I missed with respect to Model States and making suppressed parts disappear from the BOM?

Hi Scott,

On 2023, there is an option to remove the zero-quantity rows. Go to the BOM table -> click on the right-most gear button -> check "Hide zero-quantity rows."

This option is per BOM basis. You will need to change the setting in all existing iam file. The new template file should have this option enabled. For older template files, you may need to change it and save it.

@johnsonshiue Thank you, I need to check at work but this I hope fixes the Inventor side of things. 😊

Vault, with respect to the Vault Item created from the Inventor assembly, I really wasn't expecting to see the non-participating parts on the BOM with a Quantity, I have worked hard to ensure data we see on drawings, Inventor BOM and Vault Item BOM is good for both Vault and our ERP and can pass on through with very little human intervention, I suppose I can go back to the old ways.

In Inventor I feel the wording mislead me... "Do not participate", what should we expect from this new tool with respect to data export from Inventor to Vault?

Hi Scott,

"Do not participate" means the suppressed components are discounted from the BOM table. Vault BOM is based on the Structured -> All-Level BOM in Inventor. I believe the suppressed components are also deducted from the Vault BOM also.

I've found the checkbox and I've updated my Vault Item, drawing and Vault Item BOM are consistent with no human intervention. All good this morning. 😊
