I never used any migration changinv versions.

I found that to be totall waist of time and only breaking things that did work.

When I (in the old days) have been updating AI to newer version I simply was just using my old models as they are and they gradually ware detting migrated while in use.

Had no issues whatsoever.

In contrary when (only once in my life) did migrate project to never version this ended up in a disaster as task sheduler also migrated all library files that actaully removed any backword compatibility for libraries.

I had to than retrive them from backup.

My advide for you.

Just use new version of inventor and do not bother about migration.

Chris.

Task Scheduler was already very slow and unresponsive in Inventor 2021, now we've upgraded to Inventor 2024, even got a new pc, and it's even worse. Migration task stops at 5% or 10%. It's just stuck at 150 successful files. There is no warning, no message, no nothing. You just have no idea what the Task Scheduler is doing, you have no idea what the task is doing, you have no idea which file it's processing.

I don't even know what migration does and why, but I know it's supposed to make older files ready for new version. I don't understand why it's something that has to be done manually. I see there is a support page for migration, which tells you to do this and that before doing anything, and I'm wondering why I should look for support on the internet, and why those notes aren't just included in the software?

Well, it seems during migration, the task scheduler opens an instance of inventor in the background and sends warning messages about ilogic errors... and it pauses the migration while those tiny message windows are hiding somewhere in the background. And when you check the files for the ilogic errors, all the errors are in lines where levelofdetail instructions are written down. And that's the obnoxious thing about this migration farce, because Autodesk deleted the levelofdetail snippets and functions, they deleted the support pages, and the migration does not convert this code with modelstate functions. Which it should, because that's the aim of the task.

In short, half baked and impractical solutions that have to be done manually, to mask lazy and inefficient software.

Delete task scheduler and design assistant and add the functionalities to Inventor, just like any sane 3D modeling software developer.

You should take a look at your competition at Siemens and PTC, try their software and be inspired. Also, have a look at my suggestions for Inventor.

Hi Matthijs,

Task Scheduler certainly has a lot of room for Inventor. The behaviors you are describing sound that the files have migration issues that TS does not handle properly or adequately.

If possible, please share an example that can illustrate the behaviors with me (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I would like to understand the issues better.

Many thanks!
