(Pictured) If I'm doing a fabrication drawing of this structure and let's say I have 2 weldments, (a) the bottom plate with the angles, and then (b) the top plates/pipes that look like a "top hat" and I want to show 2 separate sheets on a drawing, 1 with each of the weldments. Is there a way to select which components of the full assembly to show on each separate sheet of the drawing where I don't have to have 2 separate assembly files with each weldment? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi

If you have created model states in an assembly file, each time you create a base view you can select a state from the drop-down list (similar to a view).

Sorry I'm a bit slow today lol, I knew you could make different model states for part files, I just wasn't sure if you could do the same for assemblies when inserting views into a dwg file. Thanks Mr. Pineapple!

I created 2 new model states for the assembly, but when I open up one of the new model states and delete or turn visibility off of some parts and then go back to the primary model states, everything in the primary now matches the changes I made in the new model state. What am I missing? Also, it wouldn't let me undo (ctrl+z) after i deleted a part so now i have to re-place it and constrain it again lol. Can you tell I'm an inventor newbie yet? 😄

You have to watch the range of the generator (this pencil) very carefully. It depends on whether we edit the main state, secondary state, or all at once.

You may have a little more clicking now.

What do you mean by "range of generator (this pencil)" exactly?

I'll double-click on "Bottom Weldment" model state and then when I make a change to visibility or delete a part, I'll go back to "Primary" and it shows the changes I made in "Bottom Weldment"? But, if I go to "Bottom Weldment" and place a new part, it doesn't reflect this change in the "Primary" or "Top Weldment" model states. Why is this?

In general, adding or removing anything outright (component, feature, parameter, iproperty) seems to affect all states regardless of whether you have factory scope active or not. The model states just control the value and/or suppression status of (i.e. if it's active or not) them.

So, for example, if you add a component, it's everywhere until you say where to suppress it.

Adding a parameter includes it in all states at whatever value it starts as (though value can change for different model states).

One thing to be cautious with in model states is parameters, especially constraints. It's super easy to update a constraint you want to apply to all states, and forget you have member scope on so it only updates in that one.
