Why is Inventor so slow?

So we upgraded from Inventor 2015 to 2023. 2015 had its moments, crashes etc but man 2023 is so much worse. Doing simple things (creating/deleting constraints for instance) in a small assembly causes the program to hang with the "not responding message" in the title bar for 10-30 seconds before it does what it's supposed to. System specs are in my signature. The files are all kept on our main server, PC is wired connection. Never had this issue with 2015.

It's also not all the time. In the assembly I'm working on now I made some changes and parts got all wonky. So I had to delete and redo constraints to get the parts back in their proper spots. Deleting the constraints caused the lockups and slowdowns but after I got all the constraints deleted from one part adding them back had no issues at all. I also don't notice my CPU usage spiking at all during this time so it doesn't seem like the PC is really working at all.

There are some updates available, make sure you have all installed.

Also the windows updates and graphics card.

Although Inventor 23 is more "heavy" than Inv 15, your PC is more than enough to work with inventor in any assembly, but...
Inventor "doesn't like" to work directly on a server, it prefers files locally (no matter what the version is)... i believe this could be also the problem. Test with some local files.

I am running fine on a 10 year old machine.

In my experience the behavior you describe is almost always traced back to less than ideal techniques.

Can you Attach an example assembly here for diagnosis?

I'll try duplicating an assembly to my PC and make a new project for it and see if that changes anything

@JDMather Here's the assembly. I had made changed to a mounting adapter plate and everything went all wonky on me so I had to delete and redo a bunch of constraints. As is right now it works fine.

Hi!

Seems like the model has some issues:

Always check the Desidn Doctor.

If the cross is RED, fix the issues before you advance to other operations, or Inventor will lose performance trying to solve it alone.

For example: Just Only one "sick constraint" will have a big effect on the entire model behavior regarding degrees of freedom...

Feedback:

When i opened the model the first time, it was hanging a little at the beginning.

After solving the Red Cross issues, is now very quick to open, and very smooth When handling rotating, etc.

My PC specs are similar to your.

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the files! The assembly is very small and your machine is just fine. There should not be any performance issue. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated.

In terms of the poor performance behavior, does it happen persistently or it is random? What exact workflow were you using when Inventor behaved slow?

In general - when you Pack and Go an assembly - the Design Data and the Templates folder is not needed.

I recommend fully defining each and every sketch.

Any time you see a lighting bolt - Update and resolve the issue immediately.
