BoM Row Merge | Part Number = Varies

I'm having an issue at the moment with a file where when I run the BOM Row merge setting, it merges the part number that are different. I must be missing something obvious but I can't see it?

2 off the parts which are merging I have shown below. These are in sub assemblies with a phantom BoM for reference.

BoM for item on the left

BoM for item on the right

In this example it is merging "F002 2010 28" with "F002 2010 16"

I can't see or think of any reason this would happen

Hello Josh.

Are there any Model States involved with this assembly, perhaps using different Part Number values for the same part in different states?

Any possibility of sharing this assembly, or a similar one that exhibits the same behavior?

Hi @CGBenner, no I haven't used any model states, I have used iLogic to drive the part number depending on the part configuration. But as far as I can tell (as per screen shots) the part number is updated. I have actually just found that pressing "Rebuild All" seems to fix this issue, so it is possible I need to add a line of code at the end of my iLogic rule which does this as standard. Still seems like a strange behaviour as I have other parts like this that don't require this 🤷‍♂️

Hi Josh,

The behavior does not make sense to me. Inventor BOM merges rows by Part Number (it can be disabled). There isn't a way to merge rows with different PN. If possible, please share the files in zip here or send it to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Hi Josh,

Many thanks for sharing the files! I have downloaded it. Please unshare it now. Indeed, the BOM data was somewhat corrupted. PN should never be varied. Something was wrong at a point. Here is a simple step to clean up the corruption. Go to Manage -> Rebuild All.

The other way is to disable and enable BOM view. Go to the BOM table -> right-click on Structured tab -> Disable BOM View -> Enable BOM View.

Either way should help clean up the badness. Did you use Copy Design or similar workflow to create this assembly?

Hi @johnsonshiue sorry in my delay getting back to you, the assembly is a created as part of a Autodesk Factory Layout using assets.
