topic Unable to save dwg files in v2022 but able to in 2023 in Inventor Forum

Our users are unable to save drawings (Dwg files) created or modified in Inventor 2022 to our NetApp FAS 2750 storage device shared folders. The error they are receiving states "The database in [filepath] could not be saved". This was not an issue until it was first noticed a month or two ago. If we install Inventor 2023 on a laptop that never had 2022 installed, we are able to save the dwg files to the shared drives. Essentially, what I found is that 2023 won’t save dwg files to the shared drives if 2022 is or ever was installed on the device/user profile. Please see notes below.

If the laptop has 2022 installed and we install 2023 as well (keeping both installed) neither version can save to the shared drives.

I then uninstalled 2022 and kept only 2023 installed and I’m still unable to save to the shared drives. After uninstalling Inventor 2022 and cleaning up all residual files, registry keys, etc. that I’m aware of based on support articles found on the Autodesk website we still cannot save dwg files to the shared folders.

I then uninstalled 2023 so neither version was installed, and I also followed the directions found here: https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Clean-uninstall.html to ensure all components of Autodesk were uninstalled.

I then reinstalled 2023 and I’m still unable to save to our shared drives.

I tried saving the dwg as an Inventor 2013 file as well as an Inventor 2010 file and I’m unable to save to our shared drives. I also tried disabling all the add-ins and I get the same result.

I ensured Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support was unchecked as well as ensured English was set in regional settings.

There must be something that the 2022 version is leaving behind or changing in the OS that is causing 2023 not to work after 2022 has been installed.

Hi! Each Inventor release is like an independent product. There isn't any shared component or shared file between releases. They can all co-exist. I am surprised that 2022 can influence 2023. Are you using shared \Design Data\ or style libraries? Each version requires its own dedicated \Design Data\. You should neve share them among releases.

Also please check the file folder path is less than 256 characters.

Many thanks!
