How do I model a solid shape with the texture of a Sintered Filter Cartridge - see attachment

Surface texture and cross section texture need to be similar to the Sintered Filter Cartridge for 3D printing

Hi , yes

The shape of the part will be modeled

And the texture is like the foto

Sponge or even :

Like small ballbearings

That's a rather complex texture (not actually a texture but a myriad of small spheres). I would settle for a fairly simplified representation, like Inventor do with threads. If it is a part that you will reuse a lot, maybe find some good image for a decal to wrap around it and place at the top?

If you want a perfect look, you will probably need some kind of material like these ones, but I'm actually not sure if Inventor support the level of complexity required here.

However, I did some experimenting. It's hard to make tiling textures that appear have a random content, there will be obvious patterns rather quick (unless you make huge textures).

Good day,

The end goal is to give the 3D printer a model to 3D print with this sponge / ballbearing texture and then able to increase or decease the density , depending on the test results.

So the the "image" for Inventor is not specific

Some kind of iLogic controlled pattern could probably do the trick, but that's a bit out of my league.

Depending on the size of your model, a parametric modeler like Inventor might not be the best choice.
You could create the overall shape and then export to a surface modeler that has texturing capabilities.
(quick search lists software like "Meshmixer" and "Rhino", you might also get results with 3DS Max and the like)
Is it just an outer texture or do you need an "open" texture?
Not that i can help much, but for "open" texture you could try (re)searching "voronoi"

Voronoi - a interesting consept . But I will need the sofware to do the "heavy lifting"

At this stage in time, I don’t think Inventor or Fusion is able to do this procedure as described above

I’m not a 3D printing expert, however, there is some “work arounds” with the 3D printing process that can accomplish the described outcome.

I'm guessing that just printing an infill without the outer shell is one of those workarounds.
I'd love to see a picture of your resulting print and how you solve your problem, it sounds pretty interesting.

Will it even work? FDM not for sure. The SLA resin will also have to let the resin to leak out. The SLS also needs some means of removing the remaining powder. I would be very, very cautious about an actual filtering properties of printed product when compared with Your final method of production. Unless we talk about "balls" of size of 5mm of course.
