Loft command - Reducing elbow (rectangular to circular)

Hi all,

How can I make a 24" x 40" rectangular to 36" circular elbow (shown below) using loft command ?

Can someone upload a sample ipt file? Thanks

Oh my.....does this bring back memories.

My specialty back when I was on CADDS5i (yes, I'm that old) were transitions like this.

In Inventor, the trick is finding the "sweet spot" when it comes to the guide curves. You'll need to experiment on finding out how many is too little and how many is too much.

Let me see if I can demonstrate and post some pics for you.

Thanks for the reply. Pls find attached the ipt file of my attempt . I need to make two elbow.. 90deg & 45deg config.

Make up some dimensions.

Parametric dimensions can be edited as needed.

1 correct sketch 1 specify thickness

2 correct sketch 2 specify thickness

3 create a work plane with the desired angle

4 cut detail

5 surface loft

6 add thickness

My apologies, *%#@^ hit the fan here right after I posted my reply here and I haven't had the chance to even attempt such. But I'm glad many others here have chipped in to help.

As I've learned in the past, and as I've posted, put in the basic guides and then adjust accordingly to avoid any twist or abrupt corners, etc. This may mean you'll need to add or remove guide curves.

Are you just trying to get the shape or do you need to flatten this when you are done?

@chris - Yes, I am making arrangement drawing now.. Need to give a flat pattern as well for the fab drawing.

Manage tab -> Create components.

Export all solids to separate parts and save the assembly.

Open every part; create Rip; generate a flat pattern.
