How to wrap coil around solid body and is it possible for a coil to be compressed?

I want the coil to be wrapped around the object while being slightly compressed so it stops at the hook like thing. Is this possible and if so how?

Create a 3D sketch and select the Helical Curve tool.

In the helix dialog you will find options to define the ends - these are the clamps you are asking about.

Finally, sketch the cross-section of the wire and Sweep it.

Hi! Another similar approach is to leverage Twist Sweep. You may create a line profile file from one end and Sweep along a straight line to the other end as a surface. Then add Twist angle so that the planar surface become twisted like a helix. Use the surface edge as the Sweep path for the coil. At the same time you may control the coil length by changing the straight path length in the Sweep surface.
