My colleague has an assembly built-in Autodesk Fusion 360. I want to request this master file from him ensuring that it contains complete information about the assembly and preserves the parametric information and can be opened in Autodesk Inventor 2024. Which file format should I ask for to preserve the parametric information and prevent any loss during the translation process?

Previously, I received .iges and .step files and both of them did not have complete assembly information.

Many thanks,

Mohammad Sohaib

File exchange between systems mainly transfers geometry; it can also transfer some properties, e.g. material; but it does not carry parameter information.

Hi!

It's not possible to import fusion files with complete information. Both systems use different workflows to build the models.

When you're opening a fusion file in Inventor is similar to opening a STEP file, (and vice versa).

Thanks for your quick response.

So, just to be sure: I can have a file with all information if I use Fusion 360? ( as the original file was developed in it)

Have the source do File>Export of the Fusion *.f3d or *.f3z file to their local hard drive and then forward that file to you to use in Fusion 360. Alternatively, they can send you a link to the file or make you a team member so that everyone is using the same data.
