topic Measuring iProperties in Bulk in Inventor Forum

I teach a class on Inventor, and students need to submit multiple parts per assignment for the course. Currently my grading work flow is to open each file, click File -> iProperties -> Physical -> Update and seeing if the properties match the solution (I know this isn't going to show me an exact match, but I figure it's worth the time saved). Is there a way to quickly show the volume of a part? or to check one part's dimensions against a solution part?

I could not find any keyboard shortcuts to take me to iProperties or to calculate the volume of the part, nor could I find any ways to customize keybinds to make a new shortcut. I'm hoping that there's a way to automate or speed up this process without me needing to mess with the Inventor API.

Hi! I believe this can be done by leveraging the BOM table. Place all your student's submission to an assembly. Go to Manage -> Update Mass -> BOM table. Add "Mass", "Volume", and "File Name" columns to the table.

You will be able to see the individual property on the table. You may use "Export Bill of Material" button (not "Export" button) to export the data to an Excel spreadsheet.

Many thanks!

Johnson's method is definitely the quickest way to do this.

If you've got a huge number of them you could even export it to excel to make it easier to cross check against the answers.

Got the BOM export working, thank you so much!
