Part design in assembly environment

Hello,

I want to design a part in the assembly environment in Inventor. When I add a new part, I want to take references from the corners of a part that already exists in the assembly. While doing this, I don’t want to use the Project Geometry command. I used to work with this feature before. But now, I don’t know which options I need to activate. Thank you.

You want to take references, but you don't want to project geometry?!
So, How do you want to do?

Tip: DERIVE the reference part to the new part, it's also an option.

This automatic snap is actually automatic projection.

Previously, it only automatically projected the geometry of the contacting area, not the entire face where I opened the sketch. A similar feature exists in all CAD software

It depends on the program settings and what you click while working.

Not quite following the thought here but agree w/ all "Project Geometry" is what should be used when designing a part in an assembly. Might have to do more w/ "ADAPTIVE"?

If you would like to project but not make it adaptive?

One way of doing this is ....While in the part sketch choose the "Project Geometry" and while pick the objects would like to project, hold down the "CTRL" button. This projects the the geometry but does not make the part adaptive.

Thank you for the answers. What I exactly need is this: just like when we open a sketch on a part in the part environment and can snap to the corners, I also want to be able to snap in the same way when I add a new part. However, I don’t want to use Project Geometry for this. This feature used to exist, but I don’t know which settings need to be enabled

Hello. I think what is tripping me up, and maybe others trying to help, is the "snap to the corners". In a Part sketch in Part environment.. what corners are you referring to? Corners of existing geometry in the part sketch? Thanks!

Can you tell us what version you are using?

Maybe it's a long shot, but enable this and try again...

Or maybe you need to use Project Cut Edges to get all the edges at once, instead of picking Project Edges one by one...

Use Carlos app option above to stop the automatic projection of the face that you mentioned.

You cannot snap sketches to geometry without projecting, this is just how Inventor works. I assume you are more familiar with Solidworks which does not do this?

My style is usually designing directly in the assembly environment without opening any separate part files. Once I figure out the solution, I’ll add an update under the topic. No, Inventor never worked like that.

You can enable snap-to-grid mode in the sketch, which is only a seeming tool, but it gives beginners a sense of control.

Reference can be achieved through:

projection sketch geometry and adaptivity
copying geometry (model)
linking parameters (using various methods)
derived components
constraints / joints

I think that what the problem is that in a part you sketch to the corners and although the points were being projected it is hard to tell, but in the assembly environment it is always projecting the entire edge and doesn't seem to allow you to grab just the point.

You could probably change the appearance of the projected lines so that they do not clutter up your sketches (I don't know if that is a setting - that would be nice). I think you can delete the rest of the projected line after you have something constrained to the endpoint that you need.

Projected geometry can be set to construction in application options.

Hi! I could be wrong but I believe @halilibrahimsarsmaz is looking for way to insert a new part on top of an existing part. The workflow is like this. Create -> Create In-Place Component -> Ok -> pick the XY plane of the existing part.
