Inventor 2026 Tube and Pipe - schedule of Elbows problem

I create Tube and Pipe assemblies and I select Schedule 40 for my Pipe Run.

The pipe that's created is Schedule 40 but the Elbow is NOT.

It gives me an elbow with a very very thin wall and I cannot fix this.

I have recently installed Inventor 2026 and the piping example I've attached is using the "Default" project profile, not a project we've modified for our company.

It's just using the standard "ASTM A 53/A-ASME B16.9 - Steel Butt Welded Pipe" settings without any modifications.

It's a straight pipe, then an 90° elbow and then another pipe.

When you set up you piping style, did you select the elbow family or the sch.40 elbow from below the family? My guess would be that you selected the family. Sometimes when you do this, Inventor will place the first record of the family in your route (this would likely be Sch.5s). Try selecting the sch. 40 instead and see if that resolves your issue.

Family is red, record is blue.

But if I select that it is a Schedule 40 pipe run, shouldn't it automatically know that the elbows are to be SCH40 also?

You would think so. I'm not sure why it doesn't follow the schedule from the main style window.

Hi! I took a quick look at the assembly in ELB.zip. The elbow part has a very thin wall thickness (T = 0.083"). Maybe there is a wrong set of values stored in the Content Center library. I will work with the project team to understand it better.

@FrancPro @gcooper79 @johnsonshiue We could go to the T&P run environment, and right-click the "ASME B16.9 Short Radius 90 Deg Elbow 6 x 0.083:1" to change size. I suppose you prefer to pick the thickness of elbow to match the thickness of pipe. You could pick the right member from family view, and it will work fine.

BTW, the first member of elbow with the diameter & schedule matching with pipe will be used here, and user could use context menu command "Change Size" to pick the expected one later. Thanks!

Why do we have to do anything?

I chose SCH40 pipe run, and I shouldn't need to do anything else.

Of course, that is what normally happens in the piping industry.

The pipe thickness and the elbow thickness MUST be the same.

If I select "Schedule 40", then all pipe items should be the thickness specified by the "Schedule 40" standard.

This includes all pipes, all elbow, all reducers, etc.

This is crucial, that is why we have strict engineering standards.

What is the point of selecting the piping schedule from this dropdown when you then also need to select the elbow instance from the family dropdown in the library browser too?
