Can I import picture in Autodesk Inventor and extrude it?

I have researching this for a while now and it is causing me a headache. I am new to Autodesk Inventor (3hrs into it), so please go easy on me. I have a company logo that I would like to make 3D. I am guessing I can't just import a picture and extrude it. But I would like to know at least how to import a picture so I can at least trace it in a sketch and then extrude it. How can I go about that?

Start sketch.

Click the Image icon.

size as needed

exit sketch

Start new sketch and trace image.

I have tried to import a pdf file into an Inventor 2014 idw file. The image looks good I save go out and go back in and image is a solid black rectangle

I have tried to import a png file into an Inventor 2014 idw file the image is so light I cannot read any of the text and it wont allow me to save.

I have the same isue as Kelly63.

After importing an immage into .idw and re-oppening the .idw the pasted immage is a solid black rectangle.

Can someone please help on this?

Hello,

What I did was use Adobe Illustrator to export an image into a .wmf (Windows Metafile), then imported that file into AutoCAD. Then I saved the file as a .dwg in AutoCAD. Then in Inventor create a new sketch, then go to Insert -> ACAD.

Then you extrude and blamo 3D image.

I failed to understand how the Autodesk cannot work in a simple easy way to add image in 2D. it is unbelievable.

Hi! The issue with image is that the data is an a raster form. It requires conversion to geometry so that Inventor can understand. Such conversion isn't precise which can lead to other issues. AutoCAD and Fusion 360 have the ability to convert an image to sketch geometry. Please feel free to try them.
