Can someone take a look at these parts and see what the issue is? It looks like the derived may be broken.

Part 2 is derived from Part 1. When opening Part 2, Part 1 visibility is remains On even if I set it Off but in the assembly it is indeed off, just not in Part 2. Then there are other issues with Sketch 1 in Part 2 - almost as if it shows an older stage of Part 1 or something...

I'm on the latest Inventor 2024.1.1

Thanks!

There is a construction folder above, if you don't want it, delete it:

Ha, I wasn't aware of that. The "issue" kept popping up here and there 😊

Is this a new feature or have I just not been paying attention to it / using the Construction details?

Body visibility is typically not linked between assemblies and parts. If the surface body you used to help define the part is visible in the assembly, OPEN the part, do not edit in place, and turn the body visibility off in the part. It will automatically update the visibility in the assembly. This is very important if this part were to get used in multiple assemblies, as you would need to turn it off in every one of them if you don't change the actual part. These steps also apply to sketches, work features, construction surfaces, etc.

I hope this helps. I know many of our users don't understand this one. It is not uncommon to find assemblies with ALL object visibility turned off because something was visible that shouldn't have been.

Best regards,

Nathan

Yes thank you. I'm aware of this, but here my issue was the Construction folder. I wasn't aware of that feature in the model tree. Not all derived parts have it so I'm still learning what its purpose is and if it's useful to me. I see now that visibility on the Part 1 was set to On within the construction folder, hence it's faces were visible just in Part 2, even though it was off in the "Folded Model" of the Model Tree.

I'm guessing this is probably something that has been added recently. We are still using IV2022, so I couldn't even open the parts. I checked some older derived parts and they don't have this folder. Maybe the derive process changed a little, I'm not entirely sure. I'll have to keep an eye out for this one in the future.

Hi Folks,

I am not aware of a workflow in Derive to create or carry over Construction folder. The only logical explanation is that the surface was created using Copy Object -> Construction. If you know the steps to recreate the Construction folder via Derive, please share with me asap.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

I use derive a lot and have had this issue pop up a few times, but only recently. I don't typically use that workflow, Copy Object -> Construction, but just Derive -> Bodies, Surfaces, Parameters etc. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Are you saying there really shouldn't be a Construction folder in the Model Tree?

Hi! Another possibility is to import geometry to CE (Tools -> App Options -> Parts -> Enable Construction Environment). This will allow imported geometry to stay in CE.

Other than that (and Copy Objects), I am not aware of any workflow that can create a CE folder.

Many thanks!
