Hi

I have used a rectangle pattern for the blades. The issue is that they do not seem to be all the height. I would like all blades to touch the circles (sketch is there just to show differences).Have i done this incorrectly?

File attached is 2015

Regards,

Peter

Is this a school assignment?

This same problem has come up here several times over the past couple of years.

A search might turn up possible solution techniques.

If you can't find the prior discussions - post back and someone will suggest a solution.

I would ask about 10 more questions about your true design intent - so if this is a school assignment be sure to provide all of the information you were given in the assignment.

Thanks

No it is not a school project. I am learning to get techniques correct with the correct outcome. I thought with the method i used it would have given heights that would have touch the circle ( demo sketch) all the way around

Thanks again

I was just enquiring if the desired result can be accomplished with just the Rectangle tool therefore having 1 less step (mirror feature) or it does require the 2 steps (rectangle + mirror)

Thanks

It can be done with one rectangle pattern, but you must choose the right curve for the pattern to follow.

The curve you were using starts at the top-right corner of the first "fin" feature, but you wanted it to end at the top-left corner of the last fin. But that's not how patterns work in Inventor.

To get it to work so that they are all the same height, choose a curve that passes through the top-middle of the first fin feature. See the attached part as an example (part is version 2014).

@Anonymous wrote:
...why do you not believe?

Because the fins are different height in the two "solutions".

Note that one solution the upper right corner of the fin intersects the R83.5
In the other solution only the right-most fin upper right corner touches the R83.5

Note the midpoint of the topmost fin in relation to the R83.5 or R82.7466

In one "solution" the top midpoints of the tops of the fins are all on theh R82.7466

Deriving the second "solution" into the first "solution" shows that only the first fin is identical.

(and I don't think it is only the number of fins that makes the differences - but I didn't test)

Edit: Now I did test, even with identical number of fins - the solutions are not identical.

Even if I edit to identical number of fins - both position and height are different between the two (other than the first fin).
