Can't use "insert" constraint on radial hole in pipe

Hello together,

I just switched from Siemens NX to using Autodesk Inventor 2013. Somehow i can't seem to select the radial hole axis I drilled into a pipe when I'm trying to constrain it to a surrounding part. (No problems "insert"-constraining other parts with holes in it though)

Create a workpoint at the (implied) intersection of the axis of the hole and the face.

You can do this in "one" step or in two steps.

To do in "one" step -

Start the Workpoint command

right click and select Axis and select the cylindrical face of the hole

now selet the part face.

Inventor will find the location where the axis would "pierce" the face of the part and place a workpoint that you can use with the axis for constraining.

Tank you for the help. I still couldn't use the insert constraint but I simply substitued it with 2 other constraints using the new working axis.

Felix,

I just use 2 Mate constraints:
1. CylinderCL/CylinderCL

AND

TangentFace/TangentFace.

In most cases, there's no need to create axes and points.

As you have found - Insert only works with planar circles. It automatically mates them to the same plane and concentric in one constraint.
