Hi

Could someone please assist me in deleting a link between a .ipt part and a .fres file. I've already deleted the stress analysis simulation, but upon opening the part it keeps asking me to resolve the link. I am using Inventor 2015.

Regards

Reginald

I have had this issue before and i may have just found my solution. I had deleted the simulations but a couple of files were still referenced. I closed everything, set the correct project, opened the main assembly, and when the dialogue box to resolve my .fres file opened, I found what assembly specifically had the issue (many sub-assemblies here). Once I figured that out, I navigated to that assembly and under Tools>Links, found the link that had been causing the problem. I found that the Links tool is greyed-out when it finds no issues, and that it doesnt recognize issues in child assemblies when in the parent one. Hope this helps.

Here is the proposed solution by Autodesk and it worked for me!

Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support. Here is the recommended resolution to your case:

1.Open the file and skip the request to find the missing linked files.

2.Use the menu 'Tools > Links' command and selct the OLE links for all stress analysis files ( .fins, .fsat, .ftes, .fwiz, .fmsh, .fres) listed in the Link dalog. Choose "Break link" command.

Save the file

This should help to delete all redundant links left from Stress analysis environment.

Also you can stop these from even occurring if you turn off the OLE links in the Stress Analysis Settings. I usually do this in my templates as these types of files get generated with Shape Generator as well.

Thank you for also sharing this! It was embarrassing to have to tell my customer "I don't know why Inventor is looking for this filetype." But with this thread can now rest easy knowing how it linked and how to prevent it from linking any further.

I had a similar error result from moving a design to revise it. I had then redone the FEA. Unlicking the OLE did not remove the error for some reason. Since I had an new FEA, I simply opened the part, when the error came up I navigated the folder structure to the new .fres file in the FEA folder for that part, and selected it. Error gone, and file reference to new FEA working. This also works in leaving the OLE linking intact.
