Creating a nest for a bracket

Hello,

I am trying to create a nest for a complex bracket out of a block of plastic. I have attached a picture to show how the bracket sits in the block.

What I have done so far it make my block (solid) and place my bracket (surfaces) inside of the block where I want it. What I need to do is cut out the block where the bracket sits. Most of the bracket is below the surface of the block, so I need to blow it all the way out the top. In the assembly, I editted my block and copied the surfaces of the bracket into the block. I tried using the sculpt command but it produces an error. I think this is because my bracket is actually inside my block. Does anyone know any tricks to make this do what I want.

I'm using Inventor 2015.

That's almost it. I still need side walls around it to contain the part. The function of the block should end up being something I can take the piece in and out of. How did you get it to do all the necessary angles?

But if you maintain the walls, you will not be able to take in and out, because there's some negative angles. (See the image)

But i can remove that small part in the holder to give a chance to take in and out.

Are you sure about what you want?

Have you already produce some of that.

I can improve this assembly, but you have to describe better what you need. do you have images?

Carlos,

The plan is to cut out clearance for the part relatively square. So the walls wouldn't be undercut, they would be straight up to let the part come in and out. How did you got the angles and curved surfaces from the part into the block? If I can get that, I can probably do all the rest myself.

Using Derived part doesn't work because the block is a solid but the bracket is a stitched series of surfaces.

Hi!

Have you Inventor professional?

Are you used to work with surfaces?

This is not a method to explain, is a bunch of operations, copy bodys, bolleam, split solids, construct surfaces, lofts, paths, stitch, etc etc.... and that can vary dependent the kind of troubles you will find during the process... and believe me... it will appear some.

It's a lot of manual work to explain in a few lines. It's better to show me what you need... i do it and then you study the process and learn.

If you dont know How to got the angles, i think you can't do the rest...

Can you do some manual scheme? (you can send me by mail...) i can help you...

What you mean by "part relatively square." are you talking about the piece, or the holder?? i dont know who the one you talk...

Just to confirm, because i think i know better now what you need. I will do it later at home... wait a few hours.

If you imagine the bracket itself was square at these angles, that's what I need taken out of the block.

Below you can see the lines I placed around the edges of the bracket, at the angle it is on. I want to cut this out but do it for all of the part. This just makes it easier for me to machine. I need to make the sides around .020" larger than the part so that it has some room.
