Tube & Pipe Style

Hello All,

I'm having a small problem, I can't save the "Tube and Pipe Style" that I've made

1- made a custom library

2 create component for Din 11850-2 (pipe and elbow)

Then create a new style

but I can't save it

What do I do wrong?

What do you see when you try to save? Does an error massage pop up? Have you filled in everything on the Rules tab of the style?

While you think on Chris's questions I have some more.

Are you changing the template "piping runs.iam" in Design Data / Tube & Pipe ? - Make sure it's not read only

Same for your assembly - make sure it's not read only.

Have you saved the files, I presume you've started T&P and went straight into style editing, but have you saved the files first?

Try and copy an existing style then edit it, one change at a time and save it. Change the name first and save it, then the pipe, etc...

BTW: Did you created the pipe segment from scratch? It's almost impossible to make it work. You might want to consider copying an existing family and altering that to suit your DIN 11850-2 style.

Just to give you guys an idea of what a mess it is with the pipes take a look at DIN 8062 PVC-U that I use allot.

It has only 2 key columns, "SN" and "ND" yet when you try and place one it asks for a third option, "PL" (length) which is correct actually.

This is all very confusing and against all manuals and documentation I have found. Clearly there are other mechanisms behind this that we're not supposed to know or use.

Thank you Guys,

When I click on save in T&P styles I see that a ..*.tmp file is made

. Everythink seems ok but when I want to "close" the Tube & Pipe Styles this "save Edits" keeps poping up. To quit T&P style I need to click "no" on this "save Edit" popup.

I Wanted to use the parameters I normally use in my library, which I use with VBA but I guess I should forget about that.

I'll try again with as you guys say, by copying a library of Content Center.

PS: All my files are not "read only"

The save edit dialog we all get when we change a style, so if you created a new style, not just modifying an existing one from template (which might be read only) then it's all good.

A temp file might be created with the save but I don's see how is this related to our problem.

Are you modifiing the "piping runs.iam" template file or you opened an assembly and started T&P from the Environment tab, Begin Tube and Pipe?

To indicate that something was saved but not the T&P style

I've tried both without succes.

What a re-do:

From my own library I've removed all parts.

in a new iam, created a run using a standard T&P style (DIN 2458/Din 2605...)

used the parts created as basis for my own parts (elbow and pipe)

without doing anything to the geometry/parameters I modify the value acc to DIN 11850-2 (metric)

then in Content Center, publish the part. and added some columns

the same with the pipe.

I've made sure in the project browser that my library is checked and update.

From here, I've tried to create a new T&P style in a new iam and in the template "piping runs.iam". But as mentioned I can't save it. The only option I have is to quit the T&P styles. Although I do see my new components in the content center.

Did I miss a step between my "Piping library" and "T&P styles -> create new style" ?

Hi again,

In your original post you have a shot of the save dialog box. You said you have to quit when you see this? Why do you need to quit? What happens if you select "Yes" from that dialog box? The answer to this question may be the key to solving this mystery.

Hello CBenner,

When I click on "yes" I can see that a temp file is (very quickly) made.

But this window stays actif. The only way to close it is by using "cancel"

I've made a new Content Center custom library.

Used the parts that Content Center create when I use a standard style (DIN 2458/Din 2605...)

as template.

But this time only the pipe shows up when I want to create a new T&P style. The elbow is not showing up.
Eventhough when I check Content Center Editor with my custom library on I can see my parts.

Further on I wanted to check if the authoring for my components was correct.

for the pipe I can't select a type

It's beginning to cost me a lot of time for little result.

Maybe I should re-take a cours to refresh my knowledge about Content Center.

I suspect that my general Content Center settings are wrong.

I have seen this behavior when content center families aren't created correctly. Tube & pipe is very picky about how families are created, and the exact requirements aren't well documented.

It would be much easier for us to help you if you upload a part file that was created from your custom content center family Also, upload the family table in excel format (you can export the table from the CC editor). You might have to zip this one--I don't know if the forum accepts excel files. Then we can take a look at them and see if any problems stand out right away.

In the class handout (which you can download) there should be some tips on Authoring pipe and fittings. Pipes are tricky and do require certain parameters that are not needed for other fittings. If the fittings and pipe are not authored correctly that could possibly cause problems with the styles. There is also some info in there on styles, but you could also look at this blog post.

Seeing that I couldn't find a library for DIN 11850-2, I was trying to build one myself.

Creating Pipe and elbow is just the beginnig. There's ton of coupling, flange, brackets... acc to this norm.

In Europe, in the dairy, we mainly do use this norm. The other one is ISO 1127-3 (steam).

I've also had a cours for Autodesk Plan 3D but the lack of this norm (DIN 11850-2) made this cours useless.

Especially due to the way the libray is written.

That's why I prefer to extend INV with the right library.

From what I understood, you placed a pipe from the "DIN 2458 Pipe" family. Then you used that part to create a custom part and published it to your content center. Did you create your custom part as an iPart, or a regular part?

If the part is not an iPart, you can't select the type to be "Pipe" ("Pipe", "Hose", and "Tube" are only available for iParts). If you are trying to create a new pipe family in the content center, you will need to create it as an iPart, not an ordinary part.

If you created your family with an iPart, please post the iPart here. It will be easier to diagnose the issue with the original iPart, rather than the files I requested earlier.

In the meantime, read the attached PDF file. This document describes some issues with the tube & pipe module that I encountered when I was creating a large number of PVC part families. Issue #1 seems to directly apply to your problem.

Hello Cameron,

Yesterday I finaly create (part of) Din 11850-2 for Pipe & tube (pipe and elbow 90°).

Somewhere on the net I found an email from you containing the part "Pipe - ASTM D 1785 - Sch80 - Jointed.ipt" with the right parameters declared at the right place.

Seing that DIN11850-2 has no schedule, I hadn't create a parameter with this name. That was the wall I was hitting against.

So I use the "2" from "DIN 11850-2" has schedule value.

From here I plan to create a Tee (reducer), Reducer..

If you give me the link to your message I will give you plenty of Kudos for your help!
