BUT, that Autodesk forces users to be using the latest version by doing this at all -- absolutely across the board -- is wholeheartedly unacceptable. Anyone working on a team or as part of a collaboration will invariably be needing to use the latest version as a *greatest* common denominator effect. I'm this minute being burned by this and it feels very much like an abuse of power. If the Autodesk folks really need to force people to upgrade, at least maintain back-compatibility for the previous one or two versions for Pete's sake. ~Justine Haupt Large Synoptic Survey Telescope Instrumentation Division Brookhaven National Laboratory 631.344.2114

To me that's the larger issue with this.

We're now getting it as well on some files and I can't find a trace of Inventor 2016 here. But, like I said, the larger issue seems to be what you said. This is an Internal Autodesk build that shouldn't have been out in the public. So, why then are a number of people getting that specific error message?

This will be an empty assembly file if it can be opened, but i'll attach it anyhow. If we were to save this in 2016, then try to open in 2015, shouldn't the error message then contain the build number of the released 2016? or the build number of one of it's updates and not that of an Internal build?

Interesting - your iam file was definitely created with 2015 SP2 but last saved with 2016 build 96; I recall that was what we provided as a build for some testing activites during the 2016 Beta2 timeframe almost a year ago.

If you save it in 2016 & then try to open it in 2015 then it will show an error which states the schema information that it was saved with not necessarily the build number. iProperties Details is what shows the build number info.

Attached is that file saved from Inventor 2016 SP1. You can try to open it in 2015 & see the schema info. If you right click on it & go to iProperties, Details tab, you will notice that the last 3 fields are blank - this is generally a way to know that you're trying to read info from a file which was last saved in a build newer than what you have installed.

Unless you move to 2016 then you can't use these files natively. It would be interesting to know where they came from.

Thanks

That's the resaved file that Chris sent me. He saved it in 2016 SP1 and asked me to see what it said when I opened it. I think he wanted to see if it updated the build number of the version that saved it (which it did not).

And, I know the multiple topic thing. I responded to one in general about the error and then I saw the thread that specifically dealt with the file and that I wasn't seeing anything and responded there as well. My apologies. It only started showing up for us last week and we cannot figure out what is causing it. As far as I or IT can tell, no one should have Inventor 2016 here.
