Issue with Autodesk Inventor - Unable to edit existing file.

Hi!

I installed Autodesk Inventor with educational plan, and when I save a file, then I cannot edit it anymore, if I try it, it appears the message that is attached, which translated to English is something like: "It's not possible to modify file C://(the route of the file).

The component C://(route of the file) hasn't check-out applied or it has check-out applied by other user. The file cannot be modified."

I have not ever used Vault, only Autocad and Inventor, but never shared files between both software or something like that.

Vault is telling you another user has the file checked out to them and thus they have write access to the file, all others, such as yourself, only have Read access.

Vault should tell you who has the file checked out.

Note: With Vault, only one user can gain write access to a file at a time, preventing users from over-writing your changes, etc.

Find out who has the file checked out and why, they may be making edits you're unaware of and may impact your design. If they are done, have them check the file back in, now you can check the file out (locking out anyone else from making edits) and thus you can make edits and save them to Vault.

1- Try the Unreserve tool (no longer works after 2020, use this iLogic instead: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Inventor-Files-are-checked-out-to-another-user.html);
2- Try Tools > Application Options > General > Enable creation of legacy project types, then Get Started > Projects > New > New Shared Project, and open the file in the context of that project, finally go under the "File Status" browser tab and right-click > Resolve the files in question.

3- "Save As" file with different name, then "Save As" again on top of original file (must be checked out).
4- Try to save the file with a different name, delete the original (on local drive), and save the renamed as the original name back again. Attempt save and check in then;
5- Make a copy of the assembly (no need for subcomponents) into a new location anywhere, then create a new shared (legacy) project file and save it within the SAME FOLDER as the copy assembly, open the copy (unresolved is ok) and cancel the legacy check out as needed, and finally replace (delete) the original assembly with the copy that is now free of the legacy check out.

I went to Tools > Application Options > General > Enable creation of legacy project types, then Get Started > Projects > New > New Shared Project, and open the file in the context of that project, finally go under the "File Status" browser tab and right-click > Resolve the files in question.

That fixed it, but a friend had the same problem and fixed it by moving his assemblements to other project.
