Why am I not able to extrude the sketch that I projected around this cylinder I made?

I made this cylindrical surface so that I can wrap a stair stringer around it, but when I projected the straight part of the stringer around the surface, I am not able to face or extrude the sketch. Thank you!

Hi! Extrude command can only consume a 2D sketch, not a 3D sketch. In your case, I think you want to use Ruled Surface command. In the 3rd option of the command, you can select a 3D sketch to protrude in a given direction.

you can Split the cylindrical surface with the 3D-sketch .

Than use Thicken/Offset to create the solid.

Here is the part. I was also curious how I can do it out of sheet metal so I can get a flat part out of it.

Make sure the "thicken" is equal to your Sheet metal rule "Thickness". Instead of entering a depth, just use the word "Thickness" and you will get a flat.

You can use Cut tool to to maintain flatness/perpendicularity.
