Hi, I'm new to Inventor so I apologize if this is a dumb question.

I'm trying to make different model states of a clasp in opened and closed position (assembly). My problem is that all changes I do in one model state (including just moving a part) are made in all the other model states as well. The only changes that are not made globally is adding new components, these new components can then be modified independently in the model state.

I've tried toggling edit scope to factory mode and back again without any luck.

You will need to use Positional Representations to show these different positions:
https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-34C28C35-45CA-4476-9336-30146F7C9471

Hi! Inventor Model States is level specific. For example, if you have a non-Primary Model State in an assembly, it will affect parameters or features at the assembly level, not at the part level. If you want to capture changes in the part, you need to create non-Primary Model States in the individual parts.

I suspect your configuration go across levels. Model States is not a solution for that type of configuration. You should look into iLogic. Essentially, you focus on building one variation of the seed model (iam and ipt files). Then use iLogic rule to drive parameter changes. Once you have another configuration, use iLogic Design Copy to spawn the variation.

Many thanks!

Model States of an assembly can control constraints much like positional representations. Can you attach an example assembly dataset here? Tell us or show us what you're trying to achieve, and what version of Inventor you're using.

I don't think that modelstates can handle the same as posreps, is this a bug or right (IV2023.4.1)?

<video-js data-video-id="6340799603112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)

Maybe you have iLogic rules that set a value for the parameter in the constraint?

If no, it seems to be a bug

Hi! I am sorry the video is a bit blurry. If possible, please share the files in zip here or send it to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I am more than happy to take a look at the issue to understand the Model States behavior better. The only limitation in terms of positioning in Model States is the ability to control Flexible status and retain component occurrence position (iProperties -> Occurrence -> Offsets).

Many thanks!
