topic Stop print color from changing based on user's chosen In-canvas color scheme? in Inventor Forum

Hi all,

My company recently started switching over from AutoCAD to Inventor for producing drawing packages. We nailed down a process and everything seemed to be working fine until one of our drafters went to the Application Options --> Colors tab --> In-canvas Color Scheme, and changed it from light to dark background.

Our design process involves creating a part file with only a sketch in it to use as an outline for constraining other parts within an assembly file. Within this sketch file we include a second sketch that contains text boxes. This text is supposed to carry over into our assembly drawing files. Using the default light background, creating a new text box makes the text come out black, and with the dark background the text comes out purple.

There are two problems with the color scheme change that I am hoping to resolve. First, when my coworker opens an assembly file that I originally created, the text in the file is still black, despite his background also being black, so obviously he can't see any of it. Is there no way to separate an objects "actual" color from the user interface theme? Secondly, when he creates a drawing file, the text carries over as purple onto the drawing sheet and prints in purple too, despite all layers being set to black. I know there is an option to set all layers to print black, but we do need to keep the option to print one of our drawing layers in red. Is there any way to make this setup work? I am not super concerned with the first issue, as we very rarely collaborate on projects here, but we do need a way to make sure that all text carried over from the 3D model files prints in black from the drawing files.

Thanks.

I took a look in that dialog box. There is a default setting in the Sketch section that can change the text color specifically for the dark theme, however, it creates the same problem of black text on a black background. This could be useful if temporarily swapping this setting to black changed all current text boxes in the active file, but it only changes the default color of new text boxes made after the switch, so this doesn't seem like it will benefit me.

I appreciate the suggestion though. Thanks!

Hi! Here is an old discussion about the similar issue. Please take a look.

That is not quite what I was looking for. I only want to print the drawing files, and changing the model space background I have found does not change the existing text color.
