I tried a couple of things as for a few tests. I took an 2015 assembly and placed a simple part, then selected the Advanced Feature Validation option off. If I did a direct open in 2016 Inventor the setting stayed off. Also I did a Migration Task within the Task Schedular 2016. Then opened the file and the setting was still off. I know your question was more around can this be done globally now after saved in 2016 with it switched on, the only thing I could think of would be ILogic code could be run to change this, but not sure as this is more custom code. If you wanted to post this out there someone might write it for you and post it?

Hello all,

We're still struggling with Inventor 2016 assembly performance and while working with our support services, he pointed out that there is an option to turn off instant updates on features until you do a Rebuild All.

For some reason this was activated for 2016 and when our files were migrated, they were updated with this option.

My question is, is there a way to programmatically deselect this option on every assembly file? Once I go thru and change every sub-assembly within a top level asm to deselect this option, assembly performance increases dramatically. It's worth the time to manually do it but it would be much better, of course, to do it automatically.

Any thoughts or ideas on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

John Houston

Thanks for the reply, Don. I appreciate the support. 🙂

What does Advanced Feature Validation do, and do I even have to worry about it?

Thanks,
John

Hello John,

This is taken straight from the help file. I believe this is what you were looking for.

Advanced Feature Validation

Sets the algorithm for computing part features.

When selected, uses a comprehensive compute algorithm that is slower but, can produce more accurate feature results in rare cases.

Clear the option to use an optimized feature compute algorithm that significantly improves the performance of Shell, Draft, Thicken, and Offset features.

Note:

To avoid unexpected topological changes, you cannot use a mixture of the two algorithms in one part.

The Advanced Feature Validation option is not available for legacy parts that the comprehensive algorithm computes.

I do not believe you will run into any issues if this is selected to be off. If you start dealing in surfacing or more complex shapes I would consider turning it on.

Regards,

Don
